Good things come in small packages and this adage couldn’t be more applicable than to the humble tomato.
Many of us are aware of the significant health benefits gained from including this beautiful vegetable in our diet; it has powerful antioxidant properties which can help prevent heart disease and is the epitome of a cancer fighting super food. After all, the Italians and Greeks have been lauding the long life giving properties of the Mediterranean diet for centuries, and we say that if it’s good enough for them then it’s good enough for us!
But who knew that this beautiful vegetable could transcend our diet and wellbeing and that the powerhouse property lurking within could also be so impactful to our skin?
I’m talking about lycopene of course, the hero ingredient which forms the potent core of our first range of skincare and the exciting antioxidant which has such transformative and regenerative qualities.
It makes sense really. In simple terms lycopene is the natural pigment that makes tomatoes red but not only does it give the tomato its bright red colouring, it also protects the fruit from the effects of the sun’s harmful UV rays. It makes sense therefore that these protective qualities can also apply to the human body.
Our skin is at the mercy of the elements and the environment every day. Exposure to smoking, solar radiation, pollution, and natural metabolic processes cause the build-up of free radicals in the skin. If the body can’t rid itself of them sufficiently, these reactive oxygen molecules damage skin cell DNA, and disturb the renewal of elastin and collagen fibres that form connective tissue, contributing to premature skin ageing and the development of furrows and wrinkles. And we don’t want any of those do we?
Lycopene has been found to be much more effective in neutralizing free radicals than the other carotenoids found in the skin and studies have shown that the more lycopene volunteers had on their skin the smoother their skin was and the younger their skin looked. It’s hard to argue with that, isn’t it?
But the story doesn’t stop there. Not all tomatoes are equal and size does matter here in that the level of lycopene present will of course dictate the potency and efficacy of the product.
Abundant Natural Health uses only purpose-bred tomatoes organically grown under strict scientific control at the University of Sydney’s internationally renowned Plant Breeding Institute, to ensure consistently high lycopene levels. Because we’re passionate about creating the best and giving you real results. We know what lycopene can do and we want to give it to you at its most powerful.
So how did we take this superfood to your face? We’ve infused lycopene it into our Daily Face Cream and we’re thrilled with the results. It elevates dermal lycopene levels to relieve the effects of sun exposure, promote elasticity and revitalize the skin. It protects from free radicals helping the skin maintain a youthful appearance, defends against oxidative stress caused by physiological ageing, hydrates and nourishes to enhance the skin’s natural elasticity.
And we’re not stopping there. It’s that good, that we couldn’t possibly stop at a moisturiser. There are two more exciting products in the range coming to a shopping cart near you very soon so watch this space!
